Admissions
How we help you find treatment (and what we'll never do)
The District is sober living, not a treatment program. When you call, our admissions team listens, helps you work out what level of care you may need, and helps you find licensed programs near our Orange County homes. You choose the program. We don't pay or accept anything for referrals, and your bed never depends on where you get treatment.
What we do
- Listen. What's going on, what's been tried, and what you or your family want.
- Point you to the right kind of care. If you may need detox, especially for alcohol or benzodiazepines, we tell you to get medical care first and help you find it. We're not clinicians, and a licensed program's assessment decides your level of care.
- Walk you through your options. We use the state's licensed and certified facility list and our knowledge of the area. An admissions rep talks you through the options on the phone, then sends you digital resources to read and compare on your own time.
- Help you check them. We walk you through verifying a license, checking for probation or suspension, and asking the right questions. See how to check a rehab's license.
- Help you check your insurance. Admissions can help check your benefits for treatment, often the same day. See rehabs that accept insurance.
- Line up housing. If you need a sober place to live, we match you to a men's or women's District house in all four Orange County areas (West, Central, North, and East), often the same day. Rent is private pay, and we work with you on cost. Call to talk through what you can afford.
- Stay in touch while you're with us. With your written permission, District staff coordinate with your treatment program, and we can help with rides to treatment.
- Help even if you don't move in. If a District house isn't the right fit, admissions will still help if we can. We know many sober living homes, drug rehabs, and mental health programs in Orange County.
What we'll never do
- Take payment for referrals. We don't pay or accept money, gifts, or anything of value for sending anyone to or from a treatment program. That's required by federal law (the Eliminating Kickbacks in Recovery Act, which covers recovery homes) and California law, and it's our policy.
- Tie your bed to a program. Your housing never depends on which licensed program you choose.
- Offer free rent, reduced rent, or travel to get you into a program. Any help with cost is about making sober living work for you, never about which program you pick.
- Provide treatment, or give medical advice.
- Share your information with a program without your permission.
- Publish where our houses are. House addresses stay private to protect residents.
Who calls us
- People leaving detox or residential treatment who need a sober place to live during PHP, IOP, or outpatient care
- Families trying to figure out what their son, daughter, or partner needs next
- People from out of state who want to recover in Orange County (see moving to Orange County for sober living)
- Couples, who live in separate District houses and can see each other at PHP, OP, and aftercare programs
- People with pets, since every District house allows them
Call us
Admissions answers the phone 24/7. Tell us what's happening, and we'll tell you honestly what we can and can't help with. Forms usually get a call back within minutes, but late-night forms may wait until morning, so call if you need help now.
Common questions
Does The District provide treatment?
No. The District is sober living. We don't provide detox, therapy, or medical care. We help residents and families find licensed programs near our homes.
Do treatment programs pay you for referrals?
No. We don't pay or accept money or anything of value for referrals to or from any program. That's both the law and our policy.
Do I have to attend a particular program to live at a District house?
No. You choose your program. Your bed never depends on which licensed program you attend.
Can you help me if I'm not moving into a District house?
Yes, if we can. We know many sober living homes, drug rehabs, and mental health programs across Orange County, and we'll point you toward options that fit. Nobody pays us for that.
How fast can you help?
Admissions answers the phone 24/7, and if you need sober living, we can often move you in the same day. If you send a form, we usually call back within minutes, though a form sent late at night may get a call the next morning. For help right now, call.
Can you help me check my insurance?
Yes. Admissions can help check your benefits for treatment, often the same day you call. Sober living rent itself isn't billed to insurance.
What if I can't afford the rent?
Call and tell us what you can pay. Rent is private pay, but we work with people on cost to make sober living possible. What you pay never depends on which treatment program you choose.
